News: Nintendo Profit Forcast Change, 3DS Price Drop, Free 3DS Goodies

Mommy, wow! I can have one now?

I think it’s a fair assessment to say the Nintendo 3DS hasn’t soared off the charts like Nintendo’s last two affairs, the Wii and the DS/DSi. Nintendo had estimated its profit for the fiscal year ending in March 2012 would be 110 billion yen ($1.41 billion), but has since revised that number with an 82% decrease; 20 billion yen ($257M). The companies statement about the revision has been to reflect “trends of stronger-than-expected yen appreciation and sales performance, the decided price reduction of the Nintendo 3DS hardware, and the sales outlook for the holiday season.”

News: Earthquakes Coming to Battlefield 3 Multiplayer?

July 18, 2011 Leave a comment

The Frostbite 2.0 engine is a beast. DICE has been playing up the destructible engine now for quite some time, and from footage I have seen, it can be backed up.

According to the lead multiplayer designer, Lars Gustavsson, the earthquakes in single player are “technically possible” in multiplayer.

“We’re still looking into ambient destruction in multiplayer; it’s still too early to say really,” he told PSM3 magazine.

Just imagine being a sniper, hiding in your nest. You scope in on a moving target. The crosshairs are just above the head, allowing for bullet drop. You hold your breath and prepare to take the shot when all of the sudden the building starts shaking and collapsing. Earthquakes. A snipers new foe.

E3- Liveblog Links for Live Coverage

Hello all! My absence was long, I know, but E3 is around the corner. Literally! Unlike the past few years, I am only taking off Monday and Tuesday. While I am not into gaming as I used to be, the industry still fascinates me, so this is still exciting for me.

Why have I been gone? Well, quite a few personal reasons. The main one being neglect to my wife. Games took up WAY to much of my time. So I made the decision myself to get out of it. Despite all that, I do still game from time to time, but 40+ hours a week has dwindled to 10 or so hours a week. So I don’t have time to review games anymore.

That said, again, I am really looking forward to E3 this year and to see what it brings. So bookmark this post, and I hope to see you in the CoverItLive chat. 🙂

News: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 VIPs getting new maps

March 11, 2010 Leave a comment

That’s right, new maps. Well, not really.

On the BFBC2 blog last night, DICE said on March 30th, new VIP maps were coming to combat “mapathy”. These will be available to people who either purchased BFBC2 new or purchased a VIP pass from the PSN or XBL Marketplace. The two maps aren’t really “new” though, it’s simply a Rush map (Arica Harbor) getting introduced into Conquest mode, and a Conquest map (Laguna Alta) will now be playable in Rush mode.

Hmmmm… March 30th sounds aweful familiar. Seems another game set in modern warfare (2) is getting a map pack the same day. Oh, but yeah, they have to pay for their’s. 😉

On a serious note, my only problem with this competition, because let’s face it, EA/DICE really is trying to butt heads with the machine that is Activision/IW, is the fact that these maps aren’t NEW. I have no qualms with the way they are doing the VIP thing, it’s awesome, but *if* I was a fan of both games, I’d probably be buying the new maps from MW2 because they are NEW.

DICE did say they have more VIP content planned (look forward to the next set of Conquest and Rush map reversals), as well as some paid content with other updates. This leads me to wonder if some the following might be added: new weapons, gear, gadgets, badges, vehicles, insignias, game modes. I will welcome, and pay, for any of this content. That being said, bring on the VIP treatment, DICE, and keep it coming.

[Editor’s Note: It is really hard trying to do a news story from work. I have no way to access the information, as 99.99999% of all gaming sites are blocked. Except Gamestop. And Gameciety.]

News: Super Mario Galaxy 3 Coming Soon!

February 24, 2010 Leave a comment

How soon you ask? Like, May 23 soon!

I thought this was a little odd, as I figured they would save the Mario game for Christmas but then it dawned on me that Mario games will sell no matter when they released. Sucks for kids who only get games on their birthday and Christmas!

My prediction now is new Zelda Wii as their Christmas release.

News: Brave Arms Set to Shoot-Up the Facebook World

February 7, 2010 1 comment

Facebook games. Most hardcore gamers don’t consider them games, and feel butt hurt when they are called games. But 3G Studios is bringing a “realzorz” game to Facebook. A cartoony FPS called Brave Arms is set to release on Facebook this March. As with most Facebook games, it will be free to play, with bonus’ given to those that wish to fork out a little money.

My only thought.. it will probably be extremely laggy like every other Facebook game with lots of things going on at once. Time will tell.

New: Civilization Not Networking Just Yet

February 2, 2010 4 comments

With last fall’s announcement of Sid Meier’s Civilization Network for Facebook, a little bit of spark was on it’s way to battle the ever popular Zynga games such as Farmville and Mafia Wars. That spark was supposed to hit early this year, but now seems to be postponed according to Variety.

Take Two Interactive states the beta isn’t set to release until sometime around June. Ugh, and to think, I cleaned up my Facebook and got in the habit of checking it daily all for nothing.
